They have a kiosk at my local mall, all I was changed was $10 for them to install I just had my iPad ZAGG protector replaced, it was over 3 yrs old and I had no receipt. The screen has the logo etched on a corner that way they know its theirs. ZAGG should replace it with or without a receipt. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all to consider putting any sort of film over the display that stays there permanently there is just no way it does not degrade the image quality in some form and likely gets worse over time. When I pull it off, I just slip it into the laptop sleeve to go back on when it returns to the sleeve again.

While some may consider it tedious, I find it slows me down just that small amount needed to be sure I don't leave anything behind on the keyboard that might risk damaging the display. I don't use it if I'm closing the lid to head to a meeting in the same building or something like that, but my 13" Retina never goes in my bag without that protector over the keyboard. I know there are a number of companies that make them but this is the version I use. When I started using the screen protectors that go over the keyboard before closing that problem completely stopped. I originally started using them many, many years ago on a Titanium PowerBook as screens got thinner and I started noticing impressions of the keyboard on the display surface after it had been in my backpack. This approach may seem a little random but it's one that I've used for at least the last 10 years with Apple notebooks.

It's the philosophy I have always practiced with my heavily used iPads and laptops and I have never gotten a scratch. Keep your bag, if you use one, and your MacBook clean and you'll be fine.
#Screen cover for mac pro retina laptop skin
My suspicion is that some kind of "sharp" particle got trapped between the aluminium and the display when closing the lid and scratched it, so maybe just the skin that covers the laptop body (and therefore separates the screen and the body slightly I guess) might have saved it in this case. I used to be 100% with you on this as I've never had a significant scratch (except on a phone I dropped) before - however, I'm definitely going to try the protectors and see how they impact image quality now, as the impact of getting a scratch on a display like this is pretty major in terms of cost to fix. As much as I think it's a shame to have to cover a nice looking laptop with a skin and protectors, it looks like I might have to in future!Īt the same time, I am freelance so I have carried the laptop to and from work on public transport or walking every day for the last year so a bit of wear and tear is inevitable, and even if I choose to replace it and sell for a reduced price due to the scratch, it has still more than paid for itself in a year so I'm not going to beat myself up too muchĪ scratch is such a rare thing on the displays of tablets and laptops that are reasonably taken good care of that installing an image degrading film is not only unnecessary but defeats the purpose of having such nice displays in the first place. The scratch is deep enough to feel with a finger so all I can think is that some kind of particle (perhaps glass or sand or something similar) landed on the keyboard and scratched the screen when I closed it. I was very surprised to see the scratch as I do take good care of the laptop (I always carry it in a padded case and don't leave it with the lid open when not in use) and never thought a screen protector would be necessary. There's no reason why any laptop should get a scratched display, especially one with a glass display. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of screen protectors that could avoid this happening in future, but don't adversely affect the image quality (or at least, don't affect it too badly)? I've just noticed my Retina Macbook has a scratch about 1cm long in the middle of the screen - no idea how it happened as I am pretty careful with it, annoying but not much I can do about it (other than wait for Apple to bring out an irresistible new model and replace it, of course )).
